I originally picked this up because I thought it would be a more sane urban commuter than my at-the-time GSX-R 1000. At least that’s what I remember telling my poor wife. The lunacy of this thinking became evident about a block and a half from the shop. It WAS better to commute on than the Suzuki. Unfortunately the riding position–which put me eye-to-eye with the local SUV driving sheep–and the ease with which one can back this thing into/through intersections AND THE EYEBALL FLATTENING ARM STRETCHING TORQUE….oh mercy. A true test of impulse control. Send me a message if you think you’re equal to it–WILL CONSIDER ANY REASONABLE OFFER.
In the year or two and 15k miles or so that I’ve had this bike I’ve learned a ton about the LC8 motor–most of it pretty good. We’ve slowly picked through the recommended upgrades, shedding the dreaded fuel canister and about a mile and a half of rubber hose. The bike has new ignition coils (which it didn’t need) and a new ignition pulse generator (which it absolutely did need), an Oberon clutch slave, and other assorted bits and pieces. Definitely benefited from the wisdom of the ADV guys who have logged so many (rough) miles on the Adventure version of this bike. The LC8 is maybe a little on the quirky side–especially if you’re used to the sewing machine-like efficiency (and power delivery) of an inline metric machine, but the sound this thing makes and the torque that it produces is addictive as hell.
In an attempt to retain what is left of my driver’s license, sanity, and reputation as a gentlemen, I’ve decided to part with this KTM. Not an easy decision, but it does seem like the right thing to do. This bike is an absolute beast. Drop me a line if you want it.
